Friends of Alfie Martin committee

The charity has no paid staff and is run by a committee of volunteers. Our team has grown and changed over the years. If you would like to get involved, please get in touch.

Fiona Martin
Founder and Chair
Fiona Martin is the Founder and Chair of Friends of Alfie Martin. Fiona lives in Sicklinghall with husband Roger and daughter Betsy. Fiona also has two older sons Henry and Charlie.
After having Betsy, Fiona re-trained to become a pre-school teacher. Fiona is now the owner of a ladies fashion boutique based in Harrogate.
Fiona finds her involvement with the charity very rewarding and never ceases to be touched and amazed at the generosity of people and how the charity is continuously helping to save babies lives across Yorkshire. On a more personal level, the charity allows Fiona to say Alfie’s name in a positive way and keep his treasured memory alive.

Sarah Britton
Sarah currently lives between Yorkshire and London with her husband and is the proud mother of two daughters. With a background in retail human resources, Sarah works with multiple charity organisations, including LEAP, and is a Trustee of Friends of Alfie Martin.

Jacqui Land
Jacqui lives in North Yorkshire with her husband, son and numerous pets. Drawing on her background in accountancy she was the Treasurer for the charity for about 14 years, and now remains a Trustee. The work that Friends of Alfie Martin does with the Leeds Centre for Newborn Care unit is something that has great personal significance for Jacqui.

Amanda Allen
Amanda lives in Harrogate with her husband, Patrick, and two sons. She works part-time for Fiona in her ladies fashion business in Harrogate. With a background in banking and finance, Amanda is the Treasurer for the charity. She finds being part of the charity and helping to raise funds so rewarding.

Michele Bradley
Michele lives in the Yorkshire Dales with partner, Alan, and son, Oliver. She works as a PR Manager. Michele has been a member on the Alfie Martin committee from the very beginning and finds the work very rewarding.

Monika Davies
Monika lives just outside of Harrogate with her husband and adult twin daughters. She works as a manager for a local Harrogate company.

Philippa Goldstone
Based in Yorkshire, Philippa lives with husband Robert and three children. Originally working as a senior buyer for Asda, she travelled the world buying goods. She now owns and runs her own recruitment company.

Jackie Knaggs
Jackie lives in Wetherby with her husband, David, and has two daughters, Grace and Mary. She previously worked in the legal profession and then retrained as a photographer and set up her own business. Jackie also volunteers for Martin House hospice and the Dogs Trust.

Amanda Lenahan
Amanda lives in Harrogate with husband Des and her adult twins. Amanda’s twins were eight weeks premature and consequently spent 12 weeks in a neonatal unit. She has always wanted to give something back and was delighted to join the charity committee.

Sarah Marsh
Sarah is married to Andrew and lives in Harrogate with her two children. Sarah went to school with Fiona so they share a life-long friendship. She also works for Fiona in her ladies fashion business in Harrogate.

Belinda Richmond
Belinda lives in north Leeds with husband David. She has three sons. Aside from volunteering for various charity organisations Belinda enjoys keeping active at her local gym.

Cathy Thomas-Varcoe
After relocating from Australia via Munich and Sussex, Cathy now lives with her husband and daughter in north Leeds. Cathy has a background in nursing but now creates online learning in healthcare and other subject areas for universities. Cathy was delighted to join the committee as she knows from her nursing work how modern equipment can change outcomes for the critically ill.
